There was nothing; no sound, no vibrations, no wind- it was all very still in the snow blanketed canyon. All around there was white, a scarce amount of foliage speckling the hills in the distance, interrupting the consistence of the single color. It had begun to snow again, the sky filling with thick clouds, the once clear horizon now with falling flakes scattered throughout it. There he sat, his clear gaze staring straight ahead, pondering his next course of action. He was fairly obvious against the snow, and as the time passed, his ebon pelt grew dappled with snow-flakes. In other conditions one might have noticed the silver flecks that were drawn artistically across his back and neck. Waiting, watching, he seemed to be searching for someone or something, audits alert, focused on the spacious terra before him. Sivald was a long ways from here, but he had taken the path swiftly and had managed to arrive before dusk. A worried, almost frown-like expression was drawn onto his façade; recently a challenger had come and threatened his rule over the forest land, so he had made up his mind to come here and try to find what he needed. He had plans that he wished to remain in progress. Suddenly he rose, standing to his full height, a rather magnificent silhouette against the descending brightness; lean legs buried a quarter of the way in the snow. Luckily not much had fallen yet, but there was more on its way. It had begun to snow harder, and he knew that if he did not find what he’d come for soon, he’d have to wait until it slowed. Decisively he strode forward, embracing all seriousness, a quick pace taken on. Ground was covered easily, and within no time at all he noticed an indentation in the usually sleek snow. Hopeful, he slowed himself, coming to a full stop as he neared it. It was a paw-print, or many of them to be precise, leading a trail to the east. Eagerly he lurched forward in pursuit, but more carefully this time, slower, careful not to disturb the tracks, knowing that there was one beast here he needed to find.
It grew very dark; the final rays of sunlight had been enveloped by the horizon and it was now only the moon reflecting off the white snow that gave off any light at all. It was bittersweet- there was nothing like a cold winter night, but at the same time it made it harder to get what he wanted. The land had been flat for the past few hours, and he’d found himself going in circles a few times as he followed the tracks, but now, suddenly, it dropped off into a lower plateau. Undeniably, it felt like something was watching him, or near him at least. Presently he slowed to a walk, picking his way in a bee-line alongside the line of tracks, but his gaze staring straight ahead. Then he stopped, and the wind itself seemed to stop, everything going still again, pausing, until he spoke. His voice was deep, thick with a Scottish accent, the words rolling off his tongue effortlessly, yet commanding and well placed.
I’ve been lookin’ for you all night- will you take conference with me?
